Texas Car Accident Lawyer

Someone wasn’t paying attention. Let us help you get back on track.

In Texas, someone is injured in a crash every two minutes, and 2024 did not see a single deathless day on Texas roadways (Texas Department of Transportation). No matter how safely you drive, the negligence of other drivers puts you at risk.

Insurance companies won’t fight for you

Medical bills after a wreck are substantial, and insurers do everything they can to reduce what they pay. If you or a loved one was injured or killed by a negligent driver, you need an experienced trial attorney on your side.

We work to maximize your recovery

We thoroughly investigate, aggressively negotiate, and effectively litigate on behalf of our clients. Accidents happen, but you deserve to be compensated for your injuries.

Common causes

How Car Accidents Happen on Texas and California Roads

Most crashes aren’t accidents in the everyday sense. They happen because a driver made a careless or reckless choice. The causes we see most often:

Distracted driving

Texting, scrolling, and in-car screens take a driver’s eyes and attention off the road, even at a red light.

Speeding

Higher speeds mean less time to react and more force on impact.

Drunk or impaired driving

Alcohol and drugs slow reaction time and cloud judgment. A bar or restaurant that overserved the driver may also be responsible.

Running red lights & stop signs

Intersection crashes, including T-bone collisions, are among the most dangerous wrecks.

Following too closely

Rear-end crashes on I-10, I-45, the 610 Loop, and the 405 can cause serious neck, back, and brain injuries.

Unsafe lane changes

Drivers who don’t check blind spots or signal cause sideswipes and multi-car pileups, especially on crowded freeways in Houston and Southern California.

What to Do After a Car Accident in Texas

01

Check for injuries & call 911

Get medical care right away, even if you feel fine. Adrenaline can hide pain.

02

Report the crash

In Texas, crashes that cause injury or death, or leave a vehicle unable to be driven, must be reported to police. Ask for the report number.

03

Take photos & video

Capture the vehicles, license plates, the scene, traffic signals, and your injuries.

04

Exchange information

Get the other driver’s name, phone number, license, and insurance. Collect witness names and numbers.

05

Don’t talk to the other insurer

Don’t give a recorded statement, accept a quick settlement, or sign a medical release before you talk to a lawyer.

06

We handle the insurance companies so you can focus on getting better.

Texas law

What to Know About Texas Car Accident Claims

You generally have two years

Most Texas personal injury and wrongful death claims must be filed within two years. Claims against a city, county, or state agency can require written notice much sooner, sometimes within months.

Shared fault doesn’t end your case

Texas follows a modified comparative fault rule. You can recover as long as you are not more than 50% responsible, though your recovery is reduced by your share of fault. Insurers use this rule to shift blame, so evidence matters.

Texas is an at-fault state

The driver who caused the crash, and their insurer, are responsible for your losses. Your own policy may help too: personal injury protection (PIP) and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage come with Texas auto policies unless you rejected them in writing.

Hurt in Southern California?

California has its own rules on several of these points. Our founder, Charles Vethan, is licensed in both Texas and California, so call us either way and we’ll explain the rules that apply to your case.

Car Accident Questions

If you were hurt, talking to a lawyer is a smart move. Insurance companies have teams working to reduce what they pay. A lawyer can deal with the insurers, gather evidence, value your claim accurately, and take your case to court if needed. The consultation is free.

You may be able to recover through your own uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage. We can review your policy and help you pursue that claim.

Be careful. Early offers often come before the full extent of your injuries is known, and once you accept, you usually can’t ask for more later. Talk to us before you sign anything.

In the short term, your health insurance and any personal injury protection (PIP) coverage may help pay bills. We then pursue compensation from the at-fault driver’s insurer to cover your past and future medical costs.

Nothing up front. We handle injury cases on a contingency fee, which means you pay no attorney’s fees unless we recover for you.
